About A/C

Your central air conditioning system is made up of four main components including an air handler, an
evaporator coil, a condensing coil, and air ducts which deliver the air to individual rooms throughout
your home. All of the components of your air conditioning system need to be carefully matched together
during the original installation. A mismatched system will operate poorly, and in some cases will not
operate at all.

Are You in the Goldilocks Zone?

At Intelligent Design, the top rated AC company in Tucson, we believe the precision and design of
the universe declares the glory of an intelligent designer. The Goldilocks zone is how
scientists described the narrow orbital path around a star that is not too hot and not too cold
to support life. Earth is right in the middle of that zone and it’s just right. That’s some
intelligent design right there.

Your heating and cooling system also has a Goldilocks zone. If your system is getting too cold
before shutting off, or it’s too muggy and hot before it finally kicks back on, you’re not
enjoying the Goldilocks zone.

We all want the temperature to be precise. If you’re constantly messing with your thermostat because of
swings in temperature, you don’t have to live that way. We can fix it. A home should be comfortable all the
time. That’s the power of Intelligent Design.

Have us come out and inspect your heating and air conditioning system by calling (520) 333 2665.

#1 Air Conditioning and Heating Company in Tucson, AZ

If you’re in the market for the best Tucson AC company, then Intelligent Design in Tucson
can be your go-to for all your air conditioning and heating needs. Most homeowners wait until there is a
problem before they contact a professional HVAC company. This wait can worsen the problem.

Your Air Conditioner Needs Semi-annual AC Service

They say that you don’t miss the water until the well runs dry. Similarly, since your air
conditioning system units are out of sight, one tends to forget about them when they are working well.
However, when the temperature rises and the air conditioner stops working, it makes life miserable.

You can save yourself unnecessary problems by having a top rated AC company in Tucson
service your AC unit each spring and fall. This may also keep your warranties intact, as manufacturers
often insist on twice-a-year servicing to make sure all components are working as intended.

How Intelligent Design Air Conditioning Services Are Beneficial

If you’re hot under the collar due to a broken air conditioner, call Intelligent Design,

Parts of the Air Conditioning System

The Air Handler: Blows air through the evaporator coil and into the ductwork to be
circulated throughout the home. An air filter should always be located on the intake side of the furnace
to clean the air before it is cooled and circulated throughout the home. When the furnace is used for
air conditioning, its blower will be energized at high speed, which makes more noise and moves more air
than when it operates in the heating mode.

The Evaporator Coil: Sitting on top of the furnace and enclosed in an insulated
sheet-metal box, the evaporator coil is connected to the outside condenser by two copper tubes, one of
which is insulated with a thick rubber coating. Refrigerant (R-22 or R-410a) will circulate through this
coil to cause the cooling effect.

The Condenser: The outdoor unit of a split system is the condenser. It consists of the
compressor, which is a pump that circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator coil, a large
radiator coil to transfer heat, and a fan to blow air through the coil to keep it cool. It is important
to keep the area around the condenser clear so it can operate properly.

The Air Ducts: Today’s ductwork in Tucson homes consists of insulated flexible tubes
that snake across the attic floor or under the house. Unfortunately, the ducting system is out of sight
and therefore out of mind, and tends to be neglected when it comes to cleaning and repair. A recent
study by the Arizona Energy Commission concluded that the average home loses up to 30-50% of cool air
before it ever gets to the rooms where it’s needed, due to leaking ductwork. You could be overpaying the
utility companies by as much as 30-50%.

Which is the right size of air conditioner for my house?

Your system should be the right size for your home. The size of your central air conditioner is measured
in tons of refrigeration. One ton is equal to 12,000 BTUs/hour of cooling capacity. A three-ton system,
for instance, would have 36,000 BTUs of cooling capacity. Too small a system will not cool your home
adequately on hot days.

On the other hand, having too large a system will cool the air in your home so fast that the humidity is
not removed. This leaves you with a sometimes cold, clammy feeling, and in severe instances, humidity
condensing into water and dripping off of your air registers. Your comfort consultant will perform a
heat gain analysis on your home to help you decide on the system that will best meet your needs.

Do I need to keep adding coolant to my air conditioning system?

If you keep having to add refrigerant to your system, you likely have a leak. As the #1 rated HVAC
company in Tucson, we can send an air conditioning technician who can help trace and repair coolant
leaks.

How do you measure the efficiency of air conditioners? What is SEER?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. SEER is a number by which you can compare the
efficiency ratings of different air conditioners. The minimum rating allowed today is 14 SEER, so every
equipment manufacturer has to produce a 14 SEER unit. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that all 14
SEER units are the same. The differences become apparent when you look closer at things like
construction, quality, reliability, durability, and enhanced warranties.

HVAC System Repairs and Maintenance

Your cooling system will last about 10-15 years. Once it hits that age, you should consider replacing it,
even though it might still run and blow cold air. After all, installing a new high-efficiency AC could
cut your electric bill up to 60%, compared to the cost of running your old system. With savings like
that, it simply doesn’t make sense to keep using it. If you want a free estimate for air conditioning
services, then call Intelligent Design, the air conditioning company Tucson trusts.
